INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF PUBLIC HISTORY 2024

From November 27 to 29, the International Festival of Public History took place at the former Convitto Palmieri in Lecce, organized by CESRAM in partnership with CULTUM. The sixth edition of the festival, under the theme "The stories of History," promoted the research of historical sources, including unpublished ones, among young students, associations, entities, and citizens. The goal was to collect testimonies of microhistory to compose a broader picture of the great History, exploring the feelings, emotions, joys, and sorrows of lesser-known protagonists. The festival emphasized the importance of archives, libraries, and museums in bringing out these "hidden stories" and making them significant, highlighting the role of public history in reinvesting culture in the public space and creating a balance between scientific method and the public. This edition also highlighted the need to adapt historical work to contemporary knowledge production and new channels of dissemination, with particular attention to school projects and side events aligned with the methodological criteria of public history.
