SHKODËR — WATER, LANDSCAPE, AND RURAL TERRITORY

Screenshot 2026-05-15 003316.png

The map of Shkodër interprets the territory through the relationship between its hydrographic system, agricultural areas, and settlements. The landscape is strongly structured by the presence of Lake Shkodër and the Buna, Drin, and Kir rivers, which connect the plain, urban areas, and surrounding rural spaces. The water system therefore represents not only a physical element of the territory, but a true ecological and productive infrastructure.
The GIS representation highlights the different territorial levels: hydrography, land cover, road network, settlements, and agricultural areas. The overlapping of these layers makes the complexity of Shkodër's landscape and the relationship between natural resources and human activities immediately visible. The map can be accompanied by specific zooms dedicated to the agricultural plain, the lake-river system, and the relationship between the city and the rural territory.

SAN PAOLO DI CIVITATE — THE AGRICULTURAL LANDSCAPE OF THE TAVOLIERE

San Paolo di Civitate is depicted as a rural landscape strongly influenced by the continuity of its agricultural land and the historical structure of its settlement. The area is traditionally linked to the cultivation of wheat, vines, olives, and other agricultural products, which have shaped the organization of space and the relationship between the town and the countryside over time.

The GIS map highlights the municipal boundary, the urban center, the main and secondary road network, the hydrographic network, and the agricultural matrix surrounding the town. Using distinct symbols for land use and surface type, it is possible to convey the strong agricultural influence of the area and identify the main continuities and discontinuities of the rural landscape. Zooms can focus on cereal-growing areas, the relationship between infrastructure and the countryside, and the structure of the urban center.
